Donation Policy
The CEU Library welcomes donations of books, journals, and audiovisual materials which support the curricular and research needs of the University and which fall within the scope of the Librarys collection policies. Once accepted, materials become the property of the Library and are generally not returned to the donor. The Library reserves the right to select, distribute, and handle materials as deemed most appropriate.
The CEU Library collects academic materials in the fields of the social sciences, philosophy, political science, international relations, legal studies, history, economics, business studies, gender studies, art and literature, medieval studies, and environmental science. These materials are mainly written in English.
Donors will receive, upon request, a receipt stating the type and number of books donated as well as a letter of acknowledgement, both of which may be used for tax purposes. All donors are kindly asked to fill in a letter of donation and a Pro forma invoice, which are required for customs purposes. The Library will not perform appraisals of donated items. By the same token, the CEU Library cannot provide itemized inventories of donations. Unfortunately, due to a lack of space and facilities, it is impossible for the Library to establish and keep separate special collections that are donated. However, the bibliographic record of an item in the online catalogue identifies the donor of that item.
Materials that are generally not accepted include:
- Scattered or single volumes of a multi-volume set or periodicals
- Popular magazines or periodicals
- Materials in poor condition
- Pamphlets
- Duplicate copies, except where there is a high demand for the material
- Outdated or superseded materials
Anyone wishing to donate materials to the Library should contact:
Maria Szlatky, Director, Phone: (+36 1) 327-3012 or Vit Lukas, Donations Librarian, Phone: (+36 1) 327-3000/2336.
Please notify the Library of the type and quantity of items included in the gift and how delivery is to be made.
