Library Rules
While using the Library, Members are expected to behave in a manner that does not disturb others.
It is strictly prohibited
- to bring bags or coats into the Library
- to bring food or drinks into the Library
- to damage Library materials or to mark them in any way
- to take out any materials from the Library without checking them out at the Circulation Desk
- to use cellular phones in the Reading Hall Areas
- to take any printed material(s) into the Library without first filling out the relevant form
All Library users are expected to acknowledge and observe the Library Rules. Library Members are asked to show their CEU/OSI/GSB ID card, their CEU Visitor’s ID Card or their Library Visitor’s ID Card to the Security Guard.
Patrons leaving the Reading Halls may be asked to show all printed materials and personal possessions to the Security Guard upon the Guard's request.
Repeat offenders are subject to the loss of their Library privileges.
Rules of Loan
Only CEU/OSI Staff and Students have borrowing privileges.
- Regular loan period is 30 days
- Short loan period is 7 days
- Semester loan is 90 days
- Academic year loan items are due at the end of the 1st week of June each year
- Overnight loan items may be taken one hour before closing time and is due within an hour after opening time the next day.
CEU faculty may borrow books bought on the research grant for the duration of the academic year. This privilege is granted by the Head Librarian on an individual basis.
- CEU Faculty Members may borrow up to 20 items
- CEU Students may borrow up to 15 items
- CEU Ph.D. Students may borrow up to 20 items
- CEU/OSI Staff may borrow 5 items.
Borrowing privileges will be suspended when members have overdue items.
External users do not have borrowing privileges. Only the Head Librarian can make exceptions. External Members with borrowing privileges may borrow 2 items.
The following Library materials may not be borrowed:
- reference materials
- CEU theses
- books belonging to the RFE/RL Collection
- periodicals
- loose-leaf publications
- required readings and current course materials
- non-printed materials, such as CD-ROMs, Microfiche cards, etc.
Short loan items can be renewed three times, loan items two times. Books may be reserved.
The replacement fee for a lost item is double the original price.
