Major Donations
The Central European University Library is funded with a yearly budget by the Central European University Foundation. Funding for library development makes up to 73-77% of the total budget per year. The acquisitions fund is divided between the CEU departments but is built into the Library's central budget.
Besides purchasing library materials, donations are the second most important source of library development. Approximately 30% of the present holdings of the CEU Library come from different donations.
Most donations have been given as books and periodicals, but there have also been monetary donations. The CEU Library welcomes and appreciates donations in any form, but reserves the right of selection in order to avoid superfluous duplicates or documents that are outside the Library's selection criteria.
The most important donors to the CEU Library are outstanding scholars and research institutions who have given considerable financial sums or several hundred documents to the Library. These include:

- Flew, Antony - Professor Emeritus of Philosophy, University of Reading
- Friedrich Ebert Foundation - The largest and oldest of the German party-associated foundations
- The FUNDUS Foundation - A small charity promoting academic teaching and research
- Hollander, Thomas - Tenured Instructor of Sociology, University of Massachusetts-Amherst
- The Law & Society Association - A group of scholars interested in the place of law in life
- Lerner, Patricia - A Regional Director for USAID
- Notturno, Mark - A Visiting Professor of Philosophy at CEU, Head of the Popper Project
- Randall, Laura - Hunter College Professor Emerita of Economics, University of San Diego
- Reece, Jack - A historian of modern Europe
- Riasanovsky, Nicholas V. - Professor Emeritus of History, UC Berkley
