About the Library



Membership

CEU and GSB Students, Staff, and Faculty and OSI Staff are automatically eligible for full membership at the CEU Library, but they are asked first to register at the Circulation Desk and to participate in an introductory library tour. Student memberships expire at the end of the academic year, unless otherwise requested by their departments.

CEU and GSB Alumni are welcome to use all of the Library's facilities (alumni cards are accepted as library member cards), but a letter of recommendation is required for borrowing privileges. CEU Alumni should turn to the CEU Alumni Affairs Office for CEU Alumni Cards and for recommendation letter. GSB Alumni should turn to the GSB Alumni Relations Office for this letter.

Guests of CEU, GSB, or OSI may become members of the Library on recommendation by their host departments or projects.

External academic clientele are welcome to become members of the CEU Library, but they must first provide a letter of reference on the basis of which the Head Librarian or the Head of Public Services approves their application. Memberships are granted for a set time period. Registration is free of charge, however external member must cover the cost of producing the membership card itself (250 HUF).

Application procedure for External membership

The CEU Budapest Library is open by appointment to the Academic Public.
The Library allows limited, temporary access to students and faculty from other universities with similar curriculum. Applicants are requested to provide a letter of reference from their affiliation (research institute, university, etc.) on the basis of which the Head Librarian will decide whether the Membership is granted. External Members are entitled to use all the services of the Library, but do not have borrowing privileges. Membership is free of charge and limited for a short period.

Reference letters must:

* Please note that students of other universities are not automatically accepted; therefore, a certificate of being a student or a letter signed by the admission officers are not accepted as a letter of reference.

Your request will be approved or denied within 3 days and filed at the Circulation Desk. Please call for information the 327-3099 or send an e-mail to library@ceu.hu. If accepted, you will be asked to fill out a Registration Form, prove with your signature that you have read and accepted the Library Rules and cover the cost of producing the membership card itself (260 HUF). Approved letters will be kept on file for 60 days..

CEU Library reserves the right to withdraw Membership from offenders of its Rules.
